Composition

2-octyl cyanoacrylate with colorant D & C Violet #2, sealed in aluminum tube.

Mechanism

Tissue adhesives, primarily composed of 2-Octyl Cyanoacrylate (2-OCA), are widely used in surgical procedures for skin closure. 2-OCA polymerize rapidly upon contact with skin moisture, creating a strong bond within 60 seconds. These adhesives are stronger than traditional sutures and offer benefits such as reduced infection rates, time savings, good cosmetic results, and faster recovery without suture removal. However, tissue adhesive have limitations and are not suitable for all wound types, particularly those with gaps, excessive moisture, or active infection. While effective in many scenarios, proper wound assessment is crucial for their appropriate use in clinical practice.

Better Healing

Tissue adhesive surpasses sutures for wound closure, offering better cosmesis, patient satisfaction, and pain reduction. It consistently achieves superior clinical outcomes and patient experience across multiple evaluation criteria.**
